A nationwide survey found that retail prescription drug prices can vary from store to store, and sometimes even within the same drugstore chain.

A three-month supply of the urinary incontinence drug Detrol ranged from $356 to $551.  Three months of Plavis, a drug used to prevent blood clots, ranged from $382 to $541.  Prices for Levoxyl, a drug used to treat low thyroid, were between $29 and $85.  Alendronate, a generic drug for osteoporosis, ranged from $124 to $306.

Several market factors, including the type of insurance coverage you have and what part of the country you lin in, can affect prescription costs.
